Terms of Service

Last updated: July 2026

These terms govern your use of northstarweb.org and the services provided by Northstar Web Co. ("Northstar," "we," "us"), operated by Jackson Popelka. By using this site or engaging our services, you agree to these terms.

Our services

Northstar designs, builds, publishes, and maintains websites for small businesses, and offers related add-on services. The specific scope, timeline, and price of any project are set out in a separate written proposal or agreement for that project, which takes precedence over these general terms where they differ.

Quotes and payment

Ownership

Once a project is fully paid for, you own the final website and its content, and your domain name remains yours. Northstar may display the finished work in its portfolio and marketing unless you ask us not to. Any third-party components (fonts, plugins, stock assets) remain subject to their own licenses.

Your responsibilities

Third-party services

Websites we build may rely on third-party services such as hosting, domains, form handling, and payment processors. These services are governed by their own terms, and we're not responsible for their availability or actions.

No guarantees

We build quality sites and work hard on your behalf, but we can't guarantee specific business results, search rankings, or uninterrupted, error-free operation. Services are provided "as is" to the extent allowed by law.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Northstar's total liability for any claim relating to our services is limited to the amount you paid us for the specific project or service involved. We are not liable for indirect or consequential damages.

Cancellation

You can cancel a monthly care plan at any time; it stops at the end of your current billing period. Cancelling a care plan does not remove your ownership of your site, though you'll then be responsible for its hosting and upkeep.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Minnesota, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.

Changes

We may update these terms from time to time; the "last updated" date above reflects the current version.

A quick note from Jackson: These terms are a strong plain-English starting point, but they aren't legal advice. Before you rely on them with paying clients — especially the ownership, payment, and liability sections — have an attorney review them once so they fit your business. This is the one place worth spending a little.
